The Consortium for the Protection of Lemons of Sorrento I.G.P. was established in March 2002, pursuant to art. 2602 of the Civil Code. The objective of the Consortium is to carry out initiatives aimed at the promotion, enhancement and marketing of the Lemon of Sorrento I.G.P. registered in accordance with EEC regulation 2081/92. (see Statute). The main instrument through which it intends to achieve the aforementioned purposes, thus improving the capacity of the offer and the commercial penetration of the product on local and extra-local markets, is represented by the control and surveillance consortium activity aimed at repressing abuses and irregularities, safeguarding the Lemon of Sorrento I.G.P. from unfair competition and counterfeiting. The Consortium carries out its functions, pursuant to paragraph 15 of article 14 of the law of 21 December 1999, n. 526, on assignment conferred by decree of the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies and in collaboration with the Central Fraud Repression Inspectorate of the aforementioned Ministry in the activity of supervision, protection and safeguarding of the I.G.P. pursuant to the D.M. of 10.12.2000.
